AquaClass Aboard Celebrity Reflection: Welcome to a Wellness Retreat at Sea
By Ben Reed | Owner/Certified Travel Advisor, North Country Travel Planners LLC
This Celebrity Reflection AquaClass review covers my verandah stateroom experience, Blu dining, spa access, and whether the upgrade is worth it.
There’s something special about introducing someone to cruising for the very first time.
For me, this sailing wasn’t just another trip. It was a mission.
This sailing was especially meaningful because my partner actually surprised my sister and me with the trip. He chose a shorter itinerary on Celebrity for many of the same reasons I often recommend to first-time cruisers — a beautiful ship, a manageable length, and a chance to experience a premium cruise line without committing to a full week.
My sister had never set foot on a cruise ship before. She was excited, but also anxious — especially because she’s prone to motion sickness. I knew if I wanted her to truly understand why I love cruising, I had to do it right. That meant choosing the right line, the right itinerary, and the right stateroom category.
So we took a short, four-night Bahamas sailing aboard Celebrity Reflection in AquaClass.
A quick trip. A beautiful ship. A wellness-focused experience. It was the perfect introduction.
And as it turns out, it worked better than I could have hoped.

First Impressions: Awe, Anxiety, and a Beautiful Beginning
From the moment we arrived at Pier 19 in Port Everglades, the experience felt seamless. Celebrity generally uses Pier 25, but the Celebrity Ascent was in port that day.
Port staff took our luggage directly from the vehicle, and from that point on, everything moved quickly and efficiently. There were plenty of employees guiding guests, answering questions, and making the process feel organized and welcoming.
We weren’t Retreat guests, but when we approached the terminal, a staff member working one of the lines noticed us and waved us over, quickly assisting us through the check-in process. (The Retreat is Celebrity Cruises Suite Class)
From stepping out of the car to stepping onto the ship, the entire embarkation process took exactly 14 minutes.
For someone who had never cruised before, this set the tone immediately.
As soon as we boarded, we were greeted by the Reflection crew and gently directed toward our muster station to complete check-in right away. I’ve sailed several lines, and I really commend Celebrity for how they handle this. There were no long lines, no crowding, and no repeated announcements later reminding guests to complete the safety drill. It was efficient, calm, and intuitive.
Within minutes, we were free to explore.
My sister had expected something nice, sure — but she didn’t expect the ship to feel so elegant. She mentioned that the layout reminded her of a high-end resort near where we live, especially the way the shops and public spaces were arranged. Within the first minute of being welcomed onboard, seeing the atrium, and experiencing the energy of the ship, she turned to me and said she understood why I love cruising so much.
Her anxiety faded almost instantly. And before the first day was even over, she was already talking about wanting to book another cruise!

A Comfortable Ride — Even for Someone Prone to Motion Sickness
A major storm and cold front had moved through the Caribbean just days before our sailing, so the seas were a bit high at times. My sister came prepared with motion sickness patches and medication, but the ship handled the conditions well. The captain did an excellent job keeping us in calmer waters when possible, and the ride remained comfortable.
During sunnier times, we stood on the deck watching the deep Caribbean-blue waves roll past the ship. It was another moment where I could see her mindset shifting from nervous traveler to someone genuinely enjoying the experience.

Our AquaClass Stateroom: A Wellness Retreat on Deck 11
We stayed in stateroom 1585 on Deck 11, and the first thing I noticed when we opened the door was how spacious it felt.
Anyone who has cruised knows that staterooms are typically smaller than standard hotel rooms. But this one felt thoughtfully designed and surprisingly roomy, with plenty of storage both in the main living area and in the bathroom.
There were even compartments above the beds stocked with extra pillows and blankets — a small detail that made a big difference.
The bathroom was especially impressive. It felt larger than expected and featured a heated mirror, C.O. Bigelow toiletries, and a shower setup that stood out immediately. The shower included an interchangeable waterhead and six body jets — all with excellent pressure.
It felt more like a spa shower than a standard cruise cabin bathroom.
The stateroom quickly became our quiet place to recharge between activities.

The Spa Experience: Why I Always Choose Spa Categories
As a travel advisor who has sailed multiple cruise lines and taken tens of cruises overall, I tend to gravitate toward spa-category staterooms, depending on the length and location of the cruise. AquaClass consistently ranks among my favorites.
During this trip, both my sister and I scheduled a 120-minute massage and a seaweed wrap.
The treatment rooms were calm, dimly lit, and incredibly quiet. Nature sounds played softly in the background, and the atmosphere was instantly relaxing. I dozed off a few times during the massage — always a sign that you’ve fully settled into the moment. The seaweed wrap was warm but had a cooling sensation at the same time. Once wrapped, the warmth built gradually, creating a strong, calming effect.
My sister had the same treatments, plus a pedicure, shortly after we departed Port Everglades.
One thing we both really appreciated was how professional the spa staff were. They explained the benefits of certain products and upgrades, but there was absolutely no pressure to purchase anything. After a polite “no, thank you,” they moved on and continued focusing on the experience.
On some cruises, I’ve felt a strong push to buy upgrades or take-home products after treatments. That wasn’t the case here. It felt respectful and guest-focused.

The Persian Garden: A Daily Ritual
We spent a lot of time in the Persian Garden, and it quickly became part of our daily routine.
The heated stone loungers were especially relaxing, and the steam rooms and saunas were perfect for warming up — particularly since the weather on this sailing was cooler and windier than expected. There was even an ice room!

We visited throughout the day, every day.
While there were signs reminding guests to keep their voices low and limit their time on the loungers, some people lingered longer than suggested. Still, there were plenty of additional seating areas and relaxation rooms with great views, so it never felt crowded or unavailable.
If anything, the weather made AquaClass even more valuable. When it was cloudy or windy outside, we always had a warm, peaceful place to go.

Dining at Blu: The Heart of the AquaClass Experience
Blu quickly became the highlight of our trip.
We ate there every night except one, and had breakfast there several mornings as well.
The atmosphere is elegant, decorated in white with shades of blue and soft accent lighting. The tables felt slightly more spaced out than typical cruise dining rooms, which created a more intimate and relaxed experience.
And then there was Priya.
She greeted us by name every single time we arrived, always with a warm smile. Even when she wasn’t at the host stand, she made a point to walk around the dining room, visiting tables and checking in with guests. The conversations felt genuine — you could tell she truly loved what she did.
It’s rare to see that level of consistency and personal attention.
Breakfast was phenomenal. Each morning, servers brought around trays of freshly baked breads and pastries. I asked for a chocolate croissant on the first day — even though they don’t usually carry them — and after that, one appeared at our table every morning without me asking again.
That kind of attention to detail sticks with you.
For dinner, Blu’s menu leans toward lighter, wellness-focused options. I tried several and enjoyed them, but I’ll admit — I cruise for the food, and the main dining room menu features some of my personal favorites.
One of the great things about Blu is that you can order from the main dining room menu as well, and I took advantage of that often.
Every meal was excellent.

A Special Night at Murano
On our third night, after our day in Freeport and our spa treatments, we had dinner at Murano.
We arrived early for our 8 PM reservation and were told a great table would be opening soon, so we wandered into the Ensemble Lounge for a drink.
A Filthy Martini from the Ensemble Lounge Bar.
That’s where we discovered EJ Replay.
They were performing a Fleetwood Mac and ABBA mix, which couldn’t have been more perfect. My sister and I are huge fans of both — Fleetwood Mac was actually the first concert we ever went to together.
The duo sounded incredible and drew a huge crowd every night.
Not long after we sat down, a host from Murano came to personally walk us to our table. The service was outstanding, the setting felt authentically Italian, and the food was exceptional.
A tip worth sharing: you can order half portions of pasta dishes — and even the half portions are generous. It’s a great way to try multiple items.

A Change of Plans: CocoCay to Freeport
Originally, we were supposed to visit CocoCay, Royal Caribbean’s private island. I had been especially excited to show my sister South Beach, but a storm the week prior had damaged part of the pier, and the ship was rerouted to Freeport instead.
The crew handled it incredibly well.
They worked quickly to add new shore excursions, adjust onboard programming, and keep guests informed. Many people chose to stay on board, and the galley team even put together an impressive shrimp and seafood lunch buffet that day.

There isn’t much directly at the Freeport port area, but the crew provided suggestions for local spots and excursions for those who wanted to explore.
Oddly enough, the cancellation gave us both a reason to come back to cruise again, specifically to visit CocoCay.

The Solarium, an adults-only relaxation area, includes a pool and two thalassotherapy whirlpools. It’s a nice place to get in the water or relax if you are looking to stay indoors or if you find the lido deck to be crowded.
Nassau: A Beautiful Beach Day at Pearl Island
View looking toward Nassau from the Pearl Island lighthouse.
Since our planned beach day at CocoCay didn’t happen, we booked an excursion in Nassau to Pearl Island.
It was about a 15-minute boat ride from the pier. The island offered plenty of loungers, shaded areas, kayaking, paddleboarding, and snorkeling (which we added for an extra fee). There are also several areas for beach and water access. Lunch was included and featured authentic Bahamian food.
Snorkeling equipment was available for $25 per person, if it wasn’t already included in your shore excursion ticket. We snorkeled for about an hour.
There were multiple bars throughout the island and even a lighthouse you could climb for incredible views.
On the way back, the guides gave a narrated tour past celebrity homes on Paradise Island.
It turned out to be a fantastic alternative beach day.
We caught a view of the new Royal Beach Club on Paradise Island on the ride back to the pier. Royal Beach Club is one of the Royal Caribbean Group’s latest exclusive private islands.
Why AquaClass Works — Especially for First-Time Cruisers
I’ve taken tens of cruises overall and often book spa-category staterooms across different lines, when available.
AquaClass stands out.
It offers a quieter, more relaxed experience, wellness-focused amenities, access to Blu, and unlimited use of the Persian Garden. Compared to Concierge Class — which emphasizes priority services and location — AquaClass is ideal for travelers who want a calm, restorative environment.
And for someone new to cruising?
It’s the perfect introduction.
Final Thoughts
I boarded this ship hoping my sister would enjoy cruising.
I left knowing she loved it.
From the 14-minute embarkation to the spa days, the meals at Blu, the quiet mornings on the verandah, and the way the crew handled unexpected changes, the experience felt thoughtful from start to finish.
And as a travel advisor who has sailed multiple lines and helped many clients choose their first cruise, AquaClass remains one of the most consistent recommendations I make — especially for first-time cruisers looking for something calm, elevated, and memorable.
Because once you experience cruising this way, it’s hard not to start planning the next one.
For travelers seeking a cruise experience that blends relaxation, thoughtful service, and a quieter kind of luxury, AquaClass offers a refined way to experience life at sea.
